New report: Great British Supply Chain
The UK’s supply chains are under growing pressure, with fragmented procurement limiting skills development, weakening cyber resilience, and exposing businesses to global instability.
This insight comes from the BCC’s new report, Great British Supply Chain which was launched at their Global Annual Conference on 25 June 2026.
Despite SMEs making up 99% of UK businesses, they receive just 22% of public procurement spend. Closing the gap to the government’s 33% target could unlock around £20bn annually for smaller firms and boost local economies.
The BCC believes that this is a major issue for chamber members. Complex and resource-heavy procurement processes continue to disadvantage SMEs, while infrastructure gaps and supply chain risks limit opportunities to grow and compete. With global uncertainty increasing, strengthening domestic supply chains and improving access to contracts is critical for resilience, innovation, and economic growth.
